A guide to your social media refresh
Reclaim your feed, reclaim your focus

Every day, we consume hundreds of digital micro-messages. Just like the food we eat or the air we breathe, the content in our social media feeds shapes our mood, our thoughts, and our perspective on the world.
If your virtual space leaves you feeling drained, anxious, or overwhelmed, it’s time to pause and reset. A social media reset isn't about quitting digital life. It's about intentional curation.
1. The Pause & Reflect Challenge
Before you delete or unfollow anything, take a moment to observe how your current feed makes you feel. Ask yourself these four questions as you scroll:
-
Energy Check: Does this post leave me feeling inspired, informed, or emotionally exhausted?
-
Comparison Trap: Am I comparing my real life to someone else’s highlight reel?
-
Value Alignment: Does this account reflect my personal values, interests, and growth goals?
-
Intentionality: Did I choose to engage with this content, or am I just endlessly scrolling?
Remember: You are the author of your digital experience. You don't owe anyone a spot in your daily attention span.
2. Three Steps to Cleanse Your Virtual Space
-
The Unfollow & Mute Audit
Go through your main feed and ask if each account earns its place. Unfollow accounts that consistently induce anxiety, outrage, or unrealistic comparison. If unfollowing someone you know personally feels uncomfortable, use the mute button to quietly curate your peace.
-
Filter Your Keywords & Algorithms
Take control of platform tools. Hide recommended posts containing topics that trigger stress, block ads or accounts that promote unhealthy habits, and hit "Not interested" on content you don't want to see more of.
-
Cultivate Mindful Following
Intentionally seek out spaces that nourish your mind. Think about the types of content that leave you feeling grounded, whether that’s educational insights, local community initiatives, nature photography, or constructive thought leadership.
Take 15 minutes today to go through your following list. You don't have to clean up everything at once. Start with just 10 accounts. How did the process feel? What changes did you notice in your mood after clearing out the noise? Reflect on your experience or share your thoughts with me or the community as we cultivate healthier digital habits together.
